Theme: Immersive Healthcare & AI: Finding the balance between innovation, and shared responsibility

Co-Hosted by:

In an era where technological marvels are no longer confined to science fiction, the amalgamation of AI with immersive technologies is sculpting a new frontier in healthcare. The brilliance of AI-powered diagnostics set within virtual realms, coupled with bespoke VR therapeutic regimens, signals a healthcare revolution. Yet, as we stand on the cusp of these advancements, the echoing call for shared responsibility resonates more than ever.

Immersive healthcare, propelled by AI, holds boundless promise. But this very promise mandates a careful equilibrium between groundbreaking innovation and the sacred principles of patient safety, data confidentiality, and overarching ethical paradigms.

This roundtable aims to be a beacon for introspection and collaborative action. By convening healthcare experts, AI trailblazers, and policy thinkers, we set the stage for profound discussions. Together, participants will explore the multifaceted dimensions of AI’s role in immersive healthcare, charting a course that embraces the promise of technology while ensuring unwavering commitment to patient well-being and ethical standards.

Thematic Discussion and SWARM Intelligence Gathering on Influence of AI and Immersive Technology on Provider-Patient Relationships.

As AI steps closer to the intimate relationship between a patient and healthcare provider, we must inquire about the implications of the role of the provider and the trust and bond with a patient. While AI may already play a role in clinical decision-making and AI agents may provide medical information, the introduction of AI in immersive and interactive settings for patients that substitute conventional provider tasks will impact the perceptions of each party. This roundtable will take what we know about XR, the metaverse, and AI technologies and apply them to the healthcare environment to anticipate benefits and harms.

Thematic Discussion and SWARM Intelligence Gathering on Data Privacy and Patient Agency in AI-Enhanced Immersive Healthcare

The range of sensitive health information in immersive contexts greatly expands. These data become fuel for AI models that may benefit or exploit patients. A crucial balance between maintaining data privacy and empowering patient agency over this data must be set. The discussion will explore strategies for robust data protection and compliance with healthcare regulations, focusing on the unique challenges of securing sensitive health information. Additionally, the discussion will emphasize enhancing patient autonomy, ensuring informed consent, and maintaining transparency in AI interactions to uphold patient rights and ethical standards in healthcare innovation.
