María Isabel Cornejo Plaza

Maria Isabel Cornejo Plaza is a Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Chile and Diego Portales. She earned her Ph.D. in Law from the University of Chile (2021) and completed a doctoral internship at the Uehiro Center for Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford (2018). Her academic background also includes a Master’s in Private Law (2014) and a Degree in Legal and Social Sciences from the University of Chile.

Her research expertise spans multiple cutting-edge fields including Bioethics, Neurolaw, NeuroRights, Neuroenhancement, Neuroethics, Artificial Intelligence, Big data, and Data protection. She is currently involved in academic research on “5th Freedom” – examining the legal and ethical issues concerning freedom of research within the European Research Area at the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellent Rights and Science, Università degli Studi di Perugia, Italy (2020 ongoing).

Her international academic experience includes positions as a Visiting Professor at the Bioethics Research Institute of Monterrey, Mexico (2015) and at the Jean Monnet Center of Excellent Rights and Science, Università degli Studi di Perugia, Italy (2016). She is affiliated with ceedia.org and the Universidad de Chile, bringing together her expertise in law, ethics, and emerging technologies.
