Joe Litobarski is the Editor-in-Chief of DebatingEurope.eu, an online political discussion platform based on a simple model: citizens ask questions, policymakers and experts respond. Since its launch, Debating Europe (a project of the think-tank Friends of Europe) has built a social media following of over 250,000.
Since 2019, he has been running online group video discussions with EU citizens for Debating Europe and has been impressed by the depth and richness of live video interactions compared to text-based social media. He is particularly interested in the potential of the Metaverse for democratic deliberation.
He has over 15 years of experience as a facilitator and has been exploring the impact of new technologies on European democracy since 2008. Before he joined Friends of Europe in 2011, he worked as a freelance journalist in the UK and Brussels, as well as editing BlogActiv.eu, a dedicated EU blogging platform.
